Ebay Description:

This is a Manta Montage kit car manufactured in the mid 1970's to early 1980's and based loosely on the styling of the McLaren M6GT. Manta cars where built in CA by the LoVette Bros and where very high quality and expensive kits. Some people may remember the Montage from the TV show Hardcastle and Mccormic where their car the "Cody Coyote" was a modified Manta Montage.

This car is based on a VW beetle (70's model with IRS rear suspension and ball joint front end) but don't let that fool you as it is very fast and sporty to drive.
The Car is in overall very good condition and much better finished off than most kit cars. The Engine is a Bergmann 2275cc with Weber 44 IDF dual carbs that gives it an honest 150hp in a car that weighs around 1800 pounds which makes for very spirited performance. I've owned many other semi-exotics over the years (Lotus, porsche etc..) and can truthfully say this car is faster and more fun than most of those.

The Bergmann engine is about 7 years old and probably has around 10,000 miles on it. Bergmann still sells performance VW engines and this particular engine sells for around $4500.00 It features a Porsche 911 style fan and modern type alternator. The Engine is in very good condition and very well tuned. It starts easy has great oil pressure and loads of torque. It does leak a little oil I think mainly from the valve cover gaskets (has Empi cast aluminum valve covers so needs their rubber gaskets) I installed a new clutch (Kennedy high performance) and new rear main seal less than a year ago. It has a remote mounted oil cooler in the front of the car with an automatic electric fan and a custom made large capacity aluminum fuel tank with working gauge.

The clutch and brakes work perfectly and it has four wheel disc brakes with a working hand brake. The gearbox is in great condition and shifts smooth and easy, it has a quick shift kit that makes the shifter throw shorter and tighter. The suspension is all in great condition and it has an adjustable height front beam. The car tracks great and the steering works as it should. The frame (pan) is in very good condition with no real rust, The pans have nicely installed dropped floors to increase headroom. The floors have been painted with POR 15 before carpet was installed. The tires are nearly new (295/50 R15 rear 265/50 R15 front). The wheels are also very new.

The Body is in great condition with no major cracks or problems. The paint is decent and shines up nice, There are quite a few small scratches and scrapes but the car overall presents extremly well. The Rear portion (rear clip) that folds up for engine and luggage area access had been left outside for many years when I bought the car and needed to be repainted which I had done. It looks good now but in the right light you can see the colour isn't a perfect match. The front windshield (real safety glass) is in perfect condition, the rear window is tinted plexiglass and is only a few years old.The side windows are also plastic and can easily be removed and stored in the back of the car, The drivers side window is polycarbonite and has opening fresh air vents. The Interior is also in very nice condition. The vinyl headliner, dash, door panels, center console, seats and rear partition are all in great condition. The Carpet is fairly new. The seats are comfortable and nicely padded. I am 5'9" and fit great with several inches of headroom left. The steering column tilts. The seats are fiberglass buckets with foam padding and vinyl covers and are nearly new. I also have the original formed manta seats that are contoured to the shape of the car but these have no upholstery on them (These will accomodate taller drivers). It does have lap belts installed. All electrics work including Reverse lights and air horn.

The Gauges include Tach, speedo, volt meter, Oil pressure, Fuel level, Oil temp. They all work but the speedo reads too slow and the oil temp gauge only moves a small amount after quite a lot of driving so I'm not sure if it's reading accurately. It also has a very nice Sony AM/FM CD stereo with aux input and nice Blaupunkt speakers that sound great! The Heater/defrost works great (controlled by lever next to hand brake) and has an electric booster fan. The two speed wipers work perfect. Both doors can be locked from the outside with included key. There is quite a lot of storage area for luggage etc behind the seats, and a fair amount of room inside the cab along side the seats for small bags and packages etc. It also has a small glove box in the dash and another small uncovered compartment.

It comes with a clear Title showing the year as 1971 (presumably the year of the donor VW). It also comes with an original Manta brochure complete with price list (the basic kit was $4295 in 1981) and an issue of road and track from 1974 featuring the story of the original McLaren M6GT, McLarens first production street car that was never offered for sale.

You are welcome to view the car by appointment in Granite Falls WA (near Seattle). I recommend and encourage a personal inspection of the car if possible before bidding or committing to buy. The reserve is very low considering the money and effort that has gone into this car and compared with what I have seen them sell for in the past.

Please study the pictures and video carefully as these give you a very good idea of what to expect.
